Matthew D. Kohel

Mr. Kohel is a partner with the firm, practicing primarily in the areas of commercial and product liability litigation. Mr. Kohel represents corporate clients and individuals in a wide variety of commercial matters, such as breach of contract, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty, as well as in intellectual property disputes for patent infringement, trademark infringement, the sale of counterfeit goods, and theft of trade secrets.  He also has significant experience representing pharmaceutical and medical device companies in court proceedings and arbitrations, and has handled numerous technical, scientific and regulatory issues.

Since joining the firm, Mr. Kohel has successfully arbitrated two sophisticated commercial disputes.  One, was an international arbitration over breaches of a distribution agreement, and the other arbitration involved various contractual and patent issues between an international manufacturer of medical devices and its consultant. Mr. Kohel was an integral member of the trial team for each arbitration, one of which had a three week hearing with testimony from domestic and foreign witnesses.

Mr. Kohel enjoys giving back to the community and he has worked on pro bono matters throughout his career.  Most notably, he co-authored a successful clemency petition that obtained the commutation of the death sentence of a mentally impaired inmate.  He is also a board member of the Middles Grades Partnership in Baltimore and a member of the Baltimore Rotary Club.
